This class is designed for students looking to reinforce their math skills before advancing to Algebra. Each session will begin with a focus on mastering mental calculations and improving speed in fundamental operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division—extending skills beyond the basic "nines." Students will use “Mastering Essential Math Skills” to explore fractions, decimals, and percents, reviewing operations and conversions between these concepts.
In addition, we will cover middle-level geometry, calculations with negative numbers, and key words for solving word problems. We will also utilize Dr. Henry Borenson's "Hands-On Equations" system, which offers a manipulative-based introduction to algebraic concepts. These concepts will be taught systematically in class and reinforced through home practice.
Students will engage in short, self-contained lessons and games to strengthen their understanding of exponents and orders of operation. This comprehensive approach will enhance their mastery of essential math skills through consistent review and practice.
This curriculum can serve as a stand-alone program or as a supplement to any other math curriculum you may be using at home.
